We are often attracted to photograph things that are abandoned. We often return to the same locations and see more decay, if not permanent loss, and feel grateful that at one time we had a chance to see and photograph history.
This abandoned building was photographed just south of Stockton, Utah in the springtime after we had spent the day out photographing wild horses. I am so glad we took the extra time that day to stop for this picture. This structure collapsed sometime between that spring and the next one. The rain in the background, the colors in the wood, and the dead tree still standing make it one of my favorite images.
